-Astronomers discover ‘fossil galaxy’ 3 billion light-years away [[https://tripscan.live/|трипскан вход]]+Their five minute airplane chat led to lasting love [[https://trip36.win/|tripscan войти]]

-A galaxy that has remained unchanged for 7 billion years — rarity in the universe — has been observed by astronomersoffering a glimpse into cosmic history and adding to an enigmatic collection of objects called relics or “fossil galaxies.+On recent transatlantic flight from Florida to London Heathrowmarried flight attendants Hunter Smith-Lihas and John Lihas locked eyes across the aisle.

-These space oddities are galaxies that, after an initial phase of intense star formation, escape their expected evolutionary path. While other galaxies expand and merge with one anotherthe fossil galaxies remain virtually inactive. Like celestial time capsules, they provide a snapshot into the ancient universe and allow astronomers to examine the mechanism of galaxy formation.+The two men smiled at each other, before swiftly returning to serving champagne to first class travelers.

-The newly discovered fossil galaxy — named KiDS J0842+0059 — is about 3 billion light-years from Earth, making it both the most distant and the first of its kind observed outside the local universe, the region of space closest to Earth that is approximately 1 billion light-years in radius. It was found by a team of astronomers led by the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF)using high-resolution imaging from the Large Binocular Telescope in Arizona. +This shared smile was fleetingbut spoke volumesAnd laterwhen Hunter and John were on break at the same time, the couple found themselves sitting in the onboard crew loungereflecting on the shared life and careers they’ve built together.
-“Relic galaxiesjust by chance, did not merge with any other galaxy, remaining more or less intact through time,” said Crescenzo Tortora, a researcher at INAF and first author of a study on the finding published May 31 in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. “These objects are very rare becauseas time goes onthe probability to merge with another galaxy naturally increases.+

-Very compact, very massive +“I met you for five minutes on the airplane when I wasn’t even supposed to, and now we’re living in the city together, and you’re sitting across from me on the plane and we’re working together,” Hunter recalls saying to John.
-Astronomers believe that the most massive galaxies form in two phases, according to study coauthor Chiara Spinielloa researcher at the University of Oxford in the UK.+

-Firstthere’s an early burst of star formation, a very quick and violent activity,” she said“We end up having something very compact and smallthe progenitor of this relic.+You never think when you meet someone for the first time like thatthat it’d go this far. So it’s kind of surrealAnd it honestly just makes you so happybecause you’re like, how did I get here?

-The second phaseshe addedis a protracted process during which galaxies that are in close proximity start interactingmerging and eating each othercausing a very dramatic change in their shapessizes and star populations“We define relic as an object that missed almost completely this second phasehaving formed at least 75% of its mass in the first phase,” Spiniello explained.+Airplane meeting

+First date: On their first date, Hunter flew from his home in Pittsburgh to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina to meet John, who was there on a layover. Here's the couple that evening.
+Long distance: John and Hunter lived in different citiesbut traveled to meet one another when they could. Here they are on a trip to Los Angeles during this period.
+Growing relationship: "I actually liked the long distance part at the time, because it gave us time to really appreciate our time with each other," Hunter tells CNN Travel today.
+Surprise trip: For Hunter's birthday, John surprised him with a trip to Disney World in Florida.
+New adventures: After just over a year of long distance, John and Hunter moved in together and both moved to Detroit. "It was an adjustment," says Hunter. "But I think overall, it was more of an adventure."
+Puerto Rico proposal: On a trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico, Hunter asked John to marry him. "It all clicked, like the rest of my life is coming together perfectly," recalls John.

+How Hunter and John got here was via a series of unexpected moments and decisions starting six years ago, in 2017.

-The telltale feature of fossil galaxies is that they are very oldcompact and dense, much more so than our own galaxy.+Back thenHunter was just known as Hunter Smith. He was in his early 20s and working as a gate agent for Spirit Airlines. He’d aspired to work in aviation since he’d starting watching a flight attendant who chronicled her job on YouTube.

-They contain (billions) of stars as massive as the sun and they are not forming any new stars — they’re doing essentially nothing, and they are the fossil records of the very ancient universe,” she said. “They formed when the universe was reallyreally youngAnd thenfor some reasons that we honestly don’t understand yetthey did not interact. They didn’t merge with other systems. They evolved undisturbedand they remained as they were.”+I thought, ‘Oh, my gosh, this is the best job ever. I definitely want to do something like this,’” Hunter tells CNN Travel today.
 +
+After he graduated college, Hunter secured a gate staff position in his home city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The role was the perfect foot in the aviation door.
 +
+Working the airport gate, Hunter interacted with hundreds, if not thousandsof people each day. As a sociable person, he always enjoyed the conversations — however brief — with travelers and airline staff.
 +
+But Spirit Airlines’ employment pool was so big he rarely met the same flight attendants twice.
 +
+One morning, one of Hunter’s gate attendant coworkers asked if he could pass on some papers to the captain of a soon-to-depart Spirit flightwhich was heading to OrlandoFlorida.
 +
+This kind of tasksays Hunterwas “typically not my jobI did not normally do that.”
